My Shepherd

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

(Psalm 23:1)

The Lord Jesus Christ is my Shepherd.

As a sheep in His flock, I need to acknowledge complete dependence on Him for everything in my life if I am to follow Him in the direction that He would have me go. This can be very hard to do at times as I know that I can be stubborn or tend to ‘wander off’ in the world. I’m the one who gets myself into trouble, but He is always there to lead me back onto the narrow path. As the Good Shepherd, He is always looking out for me, and protecting me from the ‘wolves’.

My Shepherd knows all about me. He is acquainted with all my problems, my failings, my weaknesses, my needs, everything! He knows exactly what it’s like to be a sheep, as He Himself was the Lamb of God who walked this earth for 33 years, and suffered greatly at the hands of the enemy.

If I am to have a Christ-honouring life here on earth, then I must be ready to follow Him wherever He wants me to go, and whatever He wants me to do. He knows what’s best for me.

Dear Lord, Thank you for being my Shepherd; for adding me to your flock, and keeping me there. I’m sorry I get ‘lost’ every now and then, and ‘wander off’. Please help me to stay focused on you at all times. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
